Party's over, SJ. Start blogging again!

Not to call SJ out right after her birthday or anything, but she's been holding out on you guys. That's right, she knows whether she's having a girl or a boy and she hasn't told you yet. If I were you, I'd be a little miffed that she's been holding out. I mean, it would be understandable that she hasn't been blogging if she didn't have anything to talk about, but she very clearly does. So, SJ, on behalf of the blog readers who still check in with us despite every other post talking about my pregnancy, I'm going to have to ask you to spill it.

But let's make those readers work for it. While SJ and J already have a name picked out for their son or daughter, the Pretend Husband and I are still debating our options (made more difficult by having to agree on a boy AND a girl name). So, everyone is required to leave a comment suggesting a girl name and a boy name for FunnyKid, who is due in less than six weeks and is in danger of being named Herbie if we don't come up with something better. And when we hit five comments, SJ will post her news (I think. I mean, I'm assuming she'll go along with this. No promises, but I think I can convince her...)

How about it? Want to help spark SJ's triumphant return to the blog? Start suggesting names...

I've always liked "Justice" as a name for a girl. Although I have to admit I haven't fully explored what mean kids would do with that.
And for a boy? Probably William. Nice, strong, and formal for an adult but has a good short option, "Will" for a child. And it's my hubs middle name.
Whatever you do, DON'T SPELL IT ALL CRAZY LIKE!
Like 'Wilyum' or 'Jakub' (for Jacob) I do know someone who spelled their kids name like that, arguing 'That's how it's pronounced.'

I agree with Kelli... whatever you choose, just spell it "normally". Our friendship has blossomed over her name being spelled with an "i" and my name being just a random string of letters.

If we have a boy at some point, we'll use Cole (my maiden name) though Jake/Jacob is my other favorite boy names. Girls are harder, I think. I like more "classic" names like Ella, Kate, etc. And I do like Reagan for either gender.

Good names AND good advice, Kelli and Audreya! I'm going to make the Pretend Husband read your comments because he is all about using weird spellings for normal names. I put my foot down when he wanted to use the Celtic spelling of a name we both like (that isn't quite out of the running so I'm not going to reveal it right now). Why complicate things?

I agree on the different spelling of names...not a big fan there!

As for names I like the above suggestions of old school names.. but I also like names that are different. I love that name Cole!
I also like names you dont see too more.. Mark, David, John.
For Girls...Linda, Susan, Debra, Karen.. you dont see to many of them these days

can't wait to see the name picked for 'Lil herbie...

Yea I am posting to be the 5th so SJ has to open up! Since as grandmom to be ...
I already know the news and the name!
But to you Kat ... please pick a name easy to spell and not different spelling.Just think of your child writing it on their papers in school!! I also like the old fashioned names but not a name that can be either sex!
whatever you pick please think of what kids will shorten it too and whatever nasty words it might rhyme with.....good luck

How about Mahalia or Marisol for a girl? I tend to like more classic boy names like Jack or Jake...

you also have to remember that the baby will one day be an adult, so don't pick some wacky old-person name that sounds cute on a baby!

the name mahalia is quite lovely.

and i also love the name jack.. if we were having a boy, our two names in contention were william and jack.

i also get concerned with pronunciation issues. you don't want your child to grow up having to explain his/her name pronunciation every year in school, or every time they meet someone...

I've always been partial to the name "Sam." It works for a girl or a boy, too!

I like Kennedy (one of my classmates named her daughter this, but spelled it Kenadi.) The presidental theme could carry on to Reagan too, which I like.
